Although I don't think this man was from our area, I don't believe but was with the 11th Indiana in the Civil War with many of Montgomery County's men

Headquarters 11th Regt of Indiana Inf near Opelousas, LA Oct 29, 1863 -- At a meeting of the officers of the 11th regt of Indiana Inf the following resolutions relative to the death of Capt Francis G. Scott were unanimously adopted
Whereas, it has pleased the Divine Providence to remove from this mortal life by a painful illness, our beloved comrade, Capt. Francis G. Scott of Co C 11th Ind Regt - therefore,
Resolved - that we deeply deplore the loss of one so long known to us as an affectionate friend, a brave man and an efficient officer; and that an all-wise Providence has seen fit to demand this other valuable life as a sacrifice to our holy cause.
Resolved, that in his, we recognize the patriotic soldier's death - though far from home and its charms with none but his companions of the camp to sooth his latest moments Yet was he cheered by the consciousness of duty faithfully performed and his last words found a ready echo in our hearts that truly his Great Father will know he "lived and died as should a soldier."
Resolved that our warmest sympathies are with his bereaved parents and family and that we pray, He who "tempers the wind to the shorn lamb," may lighten to their afflicted hearts, the blow so terribly given.
Resolved, that the foregoing resolutions be forwarded to the family of the deceased and a copy be furnished to the Terre Haute Ind and Indianapolis papers for publication: Capt. John W. Ross, Chm. - Henry McMullen, Secry
